She’s fucking livid.

After I dropped Shelby off at her car, I pulled away and rounded back on foot to keep an eye on her as she practically tore Olivia’s house apart. She was clearly looking for her friend or anything that could lead to answers.

Answers I knew she wouldn’t find.

When she realized there was nothing to be found, she got into her car and drove home. I followed—obviously—at a distance I knew she wouldn’t see me, and she’s been pacing around her house ever since.

Honestly, I’m amazed she hasn’t gotten tired or dizzy yet, given the hangover from hell I know she’s dealing with.

When she brought up being drugged, I almost lost my shit. I didn’t want to drug her in the first place, but Jon was right. We needed to get both of the women out of there quickly and quietly, meaning we had to drug them.

I didn’t realize my prairie girl had a past with drugs, though. That very well may have changed my mind about how things went down last night, but it’s too late to go back now.

She doesn’t seem to be spinning out of control looking for a fix like someone who had fallen off the wagon would, so that eases my mind a bit.

I watch as Shelby moves away from the living room window again. When she’s out of sight, I open the camera feed on my iPad while dialling Jonathan from my phone.

“Hey, you good?” he asks me with a laugh.

“Define good. I got the crazy bitch home and stayed with her until she woke up. She came at me with a goddamn hammer,” I hiss, my memory flooding back to the panic that set in when I opened my eyes this morning.

Jonathan laughs. “Sounds perfect for you,” he teases, and I sigh.

“She really is. Anyway, I gave her the story that she’d called me drunk off her ass for a booty call.” I hate lying to her, and that’s a first for me. Lying usually comes easily. “She apparently buys that part just fine. Not sure whether to be happy about that or hire you to kill all the bastards she’s slept with in the past,” I grit out, making him chuckle again.

Asshole.

“Be happy she believes you,” he reminds me. “What about Olivia?” He needs to know where Shelby’s head is at with her best friend currently in the wind, which isn’t something Olivia would do on her own.

“Oh, she’s already losing her shit, not being able to get a hold of her,” I tell him with a smirk. “I’ve been watching her all day, and she’s a ball of fury. What do you want me to do?”

“Call her in for a double shift or something,” he tells me. “Make up an excuse of needing her at the club. I need you to buy me some time. I have to wait until Liv is sobered up before I can talk to her about everything, and hopefully have her message Shelby from a cloned phone.
